| Rukia was originally sent to Soul Society as an infant with her older sister, Hisana. She, however, abandoned her in the 78th Rukongai district (one of the worst and most dangerous ones). There she made a small group of friends who stuck together to survive in such a hostile place. A few years later, though, the only ones still alive were Abarai Renji, her best friend, and her. They both decided to go to Seireitei and become Shinigami, so they could get a better chance at life. After she entered the Shinigami academy she was discovered by the Kuchiki family and the head, Kuchiki Byakuya, asked to adopt her. She talked to Renji about this, and he only told her how lucky she was and how she should accept, so she decided to accept the proposition. She then became a noble, and also graduated immediately from the academy, being sent to the Gotei 13’s 13th division. She had a kind of crush on her division’s lieutenant, Shiba Kaien, for being the first one to treat her as a normal person, as all her family treated her coldly and most others envied her. She greatly enjoyed her time with the division; though she was worried about dishonoring her family, as she wasn’t powerful enough to be made a seated officer. One day, Kaien’s wife, Miyako, and all her squad were killed by a Hollow. Seeking revenge he, Rukia and Ukitake (their captain) went to kill it. Due to Kaien’s wrath, though, he was an easy prey for the Hollow, who possessed him. As Ukitake couldn’t fight due to his illness, Rukia had to kill Kaien to free him from the Hollow. This made a great impact on her life, changing her completely. Not much is know about her, except that, many years later, she was sent on a mission to the Living World. There she met Kurosaki Ichigo, a human boy with the ability to see ghosts. She gave him her Shinigami powers so he could save his family. But she ended with no powers herself, and was unable to go back to Soul Society. She decided to stay in the Living World while she regained her powers, learning many things about modern life in the way. Most importantly, she learnt how to feel again, having denied herself that after Kaien’s death. Thus, Kurosaki Ichigo became an important part of her life, as she was in charge of helping him in his new Shinigami work, and she also lived in his closet, getting to know each other really well. It was to save him that she decided to go back to Soul Society and face her punishment, as giving her powers to a human was considered a very serious crime. Even when Ichigo tried to stop her, she told him never to follow her or she would never forgive him. She was sentenced to death, and she willingly accepted this, feeling it was her punishment for both killing Kaien and “ruining Ichigo’s life”. However, Ichigo and his friends (Orihime, Ishida, Sado and Yoruichi) arrive at Soul Society to save her and take her back to the Living World. The day of the execution, it is revealed that all this was a part of Sosuke Aizen’s plan to steal the Hougyoku, a powerful device that was hidden inside her. He finds a way to remove it from her, but still decides to kill her. Ichigo and Byakuya’s combined efforts save her in the end, and Byakuya tells her the truth behind her adoption: Hisana had been Byakuya’s wife, and she had asked him to find her little sister and take care of her. After all those battles, Rukia decides to stay in Soul Society, instead of going back with Ichigo and the others. She is sent back to the Living World when the Arrancars, Aizen’s “soldiers”, start attacking. She’s the one to bring Ichigo back to his senses, after a previous battle devastated him. It’s also in a battle with one of the Arrancar that she finally releases her zanpakutou, Sode no Shirayuki, which is the most beautiful snow and ice zanpakutou in the whole Soul Society, as it is entirely white. After Ichigo starts training with the Vizards, she and Orihime go to Soul Society to train, and this is when she would suddenly appear at Memento Eden. |

| She’s a really good actor, so she uses different “personalities” depending on the situation: She has the image of a sweet, fragile girl for her schoolmates; or she can be a cold person for the Kuchiki family. However, her real personality is loudmouthed, brutally honest and a bit aggressive. But still, she has a caring side that not many people are allowed to see. She gives her all on every mission and will always protect her comrades. She is very guilt-ridden, first about Kaien’s death and then about making Ichigo do her Shinigami work and him getting badly injured in the process. She can’t understand how her friends can raid Soul Society for her sake, and she accepts her death willingly to keep them out of problems. One of her most distinctive traits is her utter love for bunnies, especially Chappy the Bunny. She likes everything bunny-related, and will often draw bunnies too. Drawing is also a big hobby for her, but she frankly sucks at it (which Ichigo kindly points out every time he can). |
